The 1st International Mail Art Exhibition in Greece will take place in the city of Elassona in February/March 2006 organized by the “Consulate of Culture” Society. The main theme of the exhibition is “Psychedelic”.
The idea of the first-time Mail Art event in Greece comes from Ioanna Papachristou, an active member of our local cultural society, who suggested that a Mail Art event be held in Elassona, Greece. In 2004 she took the initiative to address a call to mail artists worldwide and ask for their participation in this first-time Greek Mail Art Event. The liaison in this case was Thomai Kontou, a well-known Greek painter, who lives in Elassona and takes part in several Mail Art exhibitions in the world for many years.
Artists from America, Brazil, Europe, Japan etc have already sent their work to Ioanna. All pictures are published in the web gallery of the “Consulate of Culture” Society, http://www.leukipoli.gr/mailart, ordered by arrival date.
The aim is to spread the Mail Art movement in our country, support individual creativity and reinforce artistic energy and free exchange of art, from one person to another, from one country to another.
We invite all artists of the world to take part in this first-time Greek Mail Art project.
